Radon Testing Cedar Rapids, IA

radon gas testing
Cedar Rapids Radon Pros is the best choice for radon gas testing and mitigation. It’s important to know what we’re up against, so testing is a crucial piece of the puzzle. Your home is where you spend the majority of your time, so excessive radon levels can be detrimental to your health over several months or years.

There are truly no acceptable radon levels; however, it’s rare to test a home with a radon level of absolute zero. As long as the numbers are minuscule, you greatly reduce your risk of developing lung cancer, not to mention a long list of respiratory conditions that could be avoided with something as simple as an inspection and the installation of a radon gas detector in your home.

Cedar Rapids Radon Pros can give you the assurance that you need concerning potentially high radon levels in your home.

Radon level testing is one of the many services offered by Cedar Rapids Radon Pros. The way we look at it, a simple radon inspection won’t hurt anything… it costs around $200 or less for basic testing, and you can be absolutely sure that the air you’re breathing (and the water you’re drinking) is radon free.

Don’t let the radon testing cost drive you away! An annual home inspection is well worth the price. Once you know radon is present in your home, the expenses to remove it and keep it from re-entering your home can be much greater than the cost of your initial inspection, but regardless of the price, we know you’d do whatever it takes to protect your loved ones.

That’s why we do everything in our power to keep our rates affordable. We know that an unexpected home project, like installing a radon mitigation system, may not be in your budget, but we’re also willing to do whatever it takes to help you protect those you love most!

Radon Testing

Radon testing cost aside, it’s a process that takes very little time, and it won’t disrupt your daily life. Something so simple shouldn’t be put off, especially not when it can greatly affect your health without you even knowing.
Cedar Rapids Radon Pros will tell you with absolute certainty that there are no ‘safe radon levels’ for your home. Radon testing is something that every homeowner should be doing every single year!
You can purchase a testing kit at most home improvement stores, or you can opt to have professional radon testing done at your convenience. Professionals use one of two testing methods:
  • Passive Electret Test
This type of test uses an electrically charged Teflon disc. The disc has a static charge, but it is not connected to electricity. When radon decays, it will produce ions that are attracted to the disc, reducing its electrical charge. The amount of reduction that is found is the measure of how much radon is in the air.
  • Active Electret Test
This test works much the same way, but the testing device is connected to an electrical current. Therefore, an active electret test continuously measures radon ion exposure for as long as it is connected to the electrical source.
We use each test at our discretion, depending on the circumstances. Both are accurate measures of radon gas in a home.

Radon Test Kit

You can purchase a commercial radon test kit and administer the test yourself if you prefer. There are distinct advantages and disadvantages of doing so:
Advantages:
  • A do-it-yourself radon testing kit can actually save you a little money, most selling for less than $50.
  • It will give you all the information you need to know if you plan to have a mitigation system installed anyway.
Disadvantages:
  • While these tests can be very accurate, user error plays a much bigger part than with professional testing.
  • An at-home test won’t be sufficient for legal matters, such as selling your home.

Radon Detector

About 1 in 15 homes have excessive levels of radon gas, and there’s no way to predict which homes will have radon and which ones will not.
Installing a radon gas detector will give you peace of mind if you’re concerned about radon gas poisoning. Radon is colorless and odorless, so there is no other way to detect it, short of a commercial or professional radon test. Frequent testing can get expensive when compared to the relatively low cost of installing a permanent radon detector.

Radon Levels

Cedar Rapids Radon Pros provides fast, accurate radon level testing. We aim for consistent readings as close to 0.0% radon as possible. Radon can be found in the air and water within your home.

The EPA considers an air radon level of 4.0 pCi/L or higher extremely toxic, and mitigation is recommended.  For levels of 2.0 pCi/L to 4.0 pCi/L, it is strongly suggested. We recommend for any amount of radon found in the air.
Currently, however, there are no federal standards for the amount of radon gas that can be present in your water. It is proposed 10,000 pCi/L be the standard. We can definitely see the EPA defining guidelines for radon in drinking water more clearly in the near future.

Cedar Rapids Radon Pros is your trusted source for radon inspection in homes, businesses, schools, and more. Any establishment or residence is susceptible to a radon gas leak, so you need to be vigilant about testing and mitigation.

Don’t be uninformed…safe radon levels do not exist! You always want a test reading of 0% radon gas in the air, or as close to it as possible. A radon mitigation system can be a huge asset, but first you have to know if these measures are necessary.

Call Cedar Rapids Radon Pros for radon testing so that you can be sure. Once you know your specific radon gas levels, we’ll walk you through the next steps, whatever that looks like for you. From a home radon fan installation to radon detectors, we can cover all your radon management needs!
